Several people have asked me lately to do an analysis on Bob Baffert, the trainer of Kentucky Derby Winner Medina Spirit. The horse tested positive for a performance enhancing drug after the race.
Did he have anything to do with it? Or was the horse sabotaged?
Some folks sent me this quick video. Take a look:
Here’s what I saw:
At :05 he closes his eyes for a while just before he says he got some bad news so he doesn’t want to see the situation.
At :15 his blink rate goes way up when talking about the Kentucky race commission
Throughout the video whenever he talks about the drug he moves around a lot
At :26 he says All I can tell you is…. My question is what can’t he tell you?
At:31 he purses his lips that says silent disagreement and we see a slight crooked smile which says contempt or moral superiority
At :45 as he turns his head to the viewer’s left he nods his head yes and gives a slight smile as he says ‘never been treated’
At :54 he nods slightly as he says ‘didn’t do’
At 1:12 he blames the system. He also says he was wronged, not the horse.
Some of these are hotter spots than others. Some just raise suspicion. I wanted to have more info. So I watched this longer interview:
Here’s what I noticed
His blink rate goes way up or way down when he talks about testing or the drug but NOT during contamination.
But I also saw what he did at 5:06 a couple of times. Which doesn’t necessarily say deception but does give his true feelings on the situation.
So here’s your contest for the month: What is the move and what does it mean?
The first 3 with the right answer get a copy of my book How to Detect Lies, Fraud and Identity Theft. (mailed to you if you’re in the US. E-book if you’re not in the US.)
Bob has had a shocking number of horses test positive. For someone who says he’s learning about it, he’s very knowledgeable on the levels and how they’re different in each state. Between this and the body language I strongly suspect he’s lying. What do you think and why?
