People are bombarded all day every day with communication of all types. Your job is to create e-mails and websites that are compelling, persuasive and get their attention.
You’ve got your hands tied behind your back when crafting influential online messages. Studies at UCLA have shown that 55% of communication is your body language, 38% is your tonality and as little as 7% comes from words. During communication, we take them all in and an emotion is created. As rational as we think we are, we make decisions based on emotion and gut feeling. So you’ve got to learn to make the most of the 7% you have control of when writing anything online and appeal to people in a way that specifically resonates with the way they want to receive their information
People generally fall into one communication style. That’s how they tend to send and receive information. When they get info in their preferred way, they feel great, like others really understand them and they are easily persuaded.
Styles include:
Visual: people are persuaded by how something looks
Auditory: people are persuaded by how something sounds
Kinesthetic: people are persuaded by how something feels
Auditory Digital: people are persuaded by what makes sense.
The good news is that each of these styles uses certain corresponding words and phrases . Since you may not know who is reading your communication (especially on websites) your job is to make sure that you’re reaching each style in your writing.
Just use these words and phrases:
Visual: see, view, look, appear, show, reveal, envision, foggy, focused, clear
Auditory: hear, listen, sound, harmonize, rings a bell, be heard, resonate, question
Kinesthetic: feel, touch, grasp, get a hold of, slip through, catch on, tap into make contact
Auditory Digital: sense, experience, understand, think, learn, process, decide, consider
In any descriptions, just think, how can you use the above words to give the reader an experience that creates emotion instead of just reading words on the page? When you create that experience, your phone will ring more often and you’ll come to agreement quickly because you’re spoken their language.
