The internet almost broke in January when comedian Katt Williams went on Shannon Sharpe’s interview show, Club Shay Shay and accused Cedric the Entertainer of stealing a joke.
Did you watch it? Me neither. But when some of you sent me the footage asking who was lying, I had to jump in with some body language analysis.
Let’s see what Katt had to say:
Here’s what I noticed:
He’s very congruent.
His gestures and the timing of them all match up just right with truthful behavior.
He also mentions the name of someone that helped him along with dates.
So he’s truthful here.
When you want to profile someone just step back and ask yourself, ‘what’s is this person desperate for you to think about him?’
In this case it’s how much he’s been downplayed and overlooked.
In the full interview he uses words including ‘illuminati’ and ‘plant’. He’s strongly suggesting there’s a conspiracy that’s working against him. These kinds of references rarely build credibility.
But what does Cedric say?
Here’s what I noticed.
He said he’s ‘gonna address this one time.’ That’s a cousin of someone saying ‘This is the last time I’m gonna talk about it’. Which usually indicates deception.
Then he says ‘I have no idea what he’s talking about’. Really? No idea at all? That’s another red flag. He also flashes contempt with that crooked smile as he says it. Contempt is moral superiority.
He said he’s had a lot of comedians steal his jokes as well. Does that mean that mean that he too stole a joke or that people also steal from him. That’s a little bit of gray area. Could it be a slip of the tongue admission?
As he says he doesn’t want back and forth about this he adjusts his collar a couple of times. That’s an adapter to let off stress. So this is for sure something he’s nervous about.
He continues and says ‘that’s all I can really say’ , which means there’s more he’s not going to say.
Most importantly he never said I didn’t do it.
But what is the joke in question? It took me a while to find it and the video isn’t great. We’re missing the setup that Katt talks about. So we’re losing the comedic value but here you go.
Looks pretty much the same to me. Pants on Fire Cedric.
