My friend and my guest today Terry Rich decided to investigate a huge fraud case that could have killed his industry if he was wrong. So today instead of me telling the story, let’s go straight to the source.
Here’s the quick rundown. Terry was the CEO of the Iowa lottery. They had sold a $16Million dollar winning ticket and nobody had come forward to claim it. Right before the 1 year deadline to claim the money, several people tried to get the payout. But something was fishy about them all. Terry led the charge to uncover what turned out to be a $16 million dollar internal fraud case. The investigation took years. It was no small deal.
There’s a lot of risk in investigating fraud. If the story gets out will the public trust you ever again? Or will something else happen?
