When Everyone is Lying
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Body Language Analysis
The Amber Heard & Johnny Depp trial has been the gift that keeps on giving for reading the body language of deception.
I went into this assuming Johnny is a wife beater. Why? Because very few women lie about abuse, especially sexual abuse.
After analysis, I know that both are liars and abusers.
First, let’s talk about Johnny. In my podcast Episode with Statement Analysis Expert Peter Hyatt, he mentioned that in his analysis of over 25,000 police and FBI interview transcripts, liars will replace the word ’no’ with ‘never’. Here we see that. This clip ends quicker than I’d like it to but notice that little one sided smile at the end. That may say contempt, which is moral superiority:
And as for Amber. Here she uses what’s called Disappearing Perpetrator here when she says ‘slapped me across the face’.
She edits her statement when she says it again, adding in ‘he’. What’s important is the first time she says it. Believe what people tell you the first time. The old saying is really true ‘The first time someone lies it’s shame on them. Believing it the 2nd time is shame on you.’
There’s too much in this trial to go over in one newsletter so we’ll be looking at clips in the upcoming months.
Both are actors and great at disassociating which made for complex and nuanced deception detection.
My analysis is that both are lying about the specifics of a drug and alcohol fueled horrible situation. I think this became more about who was lying the least.
